Slideshow - Model T Race Participants

I've been reading with great interest about the reenactment of the 1909 Coast To Coast Endurance Race. In the 2009 version Ford Model Ts from the US and other countries recently reached Washington on their way to Seattle. It's been a grueling journey - puncuated by accidents, breakdowns, and speeds of only 35mph - but the drivers and riders have made it a fun and successful run. I love these old rigs; Sherry and I considered building a "T-bucket" back in the day; they're the simplest way to build a hot rod from scratch. Heck, you can even weld your own frame together from plans (which I have stashed in the garage somewhere).

Now imagine my excitement when last night I passed by a parking lot full of Model Ts on the way home from work! This was not an opportunity that is easy to muster, viewing Model Ts covered in grit and dripping with oil and water - fresh from the road. Normally this kind of car is only seen in the sanitary conditions of a car show, not in their natural element. Given that the newest Model T is 72 years old, I'm not surprised. I needed to document this visit, and fast because the sun was starting to go down. All my film camera equipment was with me in the truck, but the lighting conditions - coupled with the fact that my digital camera broke - left me with one alternative: Mobile Phone. Not the best, but in a pinch it does the job.

So I started shooting. If you don't see the embedded slide show below, click HERE to view it directly at Photobucket. Even got a couple of videos of one car that was put-put-putting around the parking lot at the hotel, giving rides to kids. What a great catch on nice night!
